Cows Are Dying for Your Help

Cows Are Dying for Your Help

You can travel all sorts of ways: by foot, bus, car or train. But, even if your feet hurt or the bus is crowded and stuffy, it’s luxurious compared to the way cows travel to slaughter. Cows are packed so tightly into lorries that many are gored and trampled, suffering broken bones and other serious injuries. Many die before they make it to the slaughterhouse. Transporting animals this way is illegal, but it continues because the government refuses to do anything about it and the public continues to purchase leather.

We know you want to help – and you can! The best thing you can do is to speak out against the leather and meat industries and maintain a vegan lifestyle – and encourage others to do the same. You can let government officials know you want them to stop this cruelty by joining the petaDishoom Street Team and passing around our petition to stop this abuse to friends, neighbours, classmates or anyone else who cares about animals. All you have to do is download and print copies of the petition and then start circulating. Check out these helpful tips for getting sign-ups, and make sure you get the names and e-mail addresses of everyone who signs the petition so that we can send them the monthly petaDishoom E-News. This way, they’ll keep up-to-date on how to help animals too.

The good news is, while you’re collecting pages of petition sign-ups, you can help animals in another way right now by signing the petition online:

By supplying my e-mail address, I recognise that I may receive a follow-up message.
Your privacy is very important to us. Read petaDishoom's privacy policy.

Don’t forget to stop by your campus newspaper and let them know about your petition so that they can write a story about it. The more signatures you collect, the greater the chance they’ll write a story! Be sure to e-mail us at StreetTeamIndia@petaindia.org before you contact campus reps so that we can give you advice on how to spread the word about the cruelty behind the leather trade.

Many signatures will make the government pay attention, and they will get you attention here at petaDishoom, too – and by “attention”, we mean free stuff, of course! The prizes depend on the number of sign-ups you collect:

  • 50 sign-ups: pen, key chain and stickers
  • 100 sign-ups: cap and the above
  • 300 sign-ups: wallet and the above
  • 500 sign-ups: T-shirt and the above
  • 600 sign-ups or more: a petaDishoom goodie bag

Collecting the prizes is easy. Once you’ve gotten as many sign-ups as you can and have registered for the Street Team, send your sign-ups to StreetTeamIndia@petaindia.org or to the following address:

petaDishoom
PO Box 28260
Juhu, Mumbai 400 049
India

We’ll forward your petition to the appropriate government officials. Don’t forget to include a cover sheet with your name, address, phone number and e-mail address, so we know where to send all the prizes you’ve earned! Wait until you’ve collected all the sign-ups you can, because once you’ve turned them in, any new sheets you send us will be counted from zero. Don’t be tempted to cheat – or you’ll lose your prizes and your place on the Street Team!

The prizes are being offered only to people who live in India. If you’re outside India, go to peta2 to find out how you can make a difference for animals – and win!

If you live in India, check in with petaDishoom often to learn about other ways you can make a difference and help animals!
