Animals Used for Food
Chicken tikkas, mutton chops, chicken burgers, beef steaks, fish curries, sausages, chicken lollypops – all different but with one sick thing in common: They are all made from the dead remains of tortured animals. Some people may think only of their taste buds when eating and not the animals, but it’s high time to take a bite into reality.
In India, cattle, goats and sheep are often goaded onto vehicles on their way to slaughter in such high numbers that their bones break. At the slaughterhouse, they are typically killed in full view of one another with blunt knives. Chickens are often kept in conditions so cramped that they peck at each other out of frustration. Instead of giving them more space, workers cut off their beaks (and sometimes parts of their faces and tongues too). Pigs are sometimes killed with an iron rod shoved through their bodies – mouth to anus. Fish are crushed with rocks, cut while still conscious or slowly suffocated.
In India, nearly 2 billion animals are slaughtered every year for meat, and worldwide the number is more than 54 billion. (These figures do not include the billions of fish killed.)
