Catching Up With Jal
OK, we admit it: we're Jal-oholics. But it's not our fault. After all, who isn't crazy about their blazing-hot new album? That's right – just when you finally got their smash single "Aadat" out of your head (it's highly addictive, so if it's still in your head, we understand), now you won't be able to stop humming "Payal" and "Sajni" from their new album, Boondh. And we're not the only ones who can't get enough of these Pakistani pop darlings. Since we last talked to Goher, Shazi and Farhan, they were crowned Best Rock Band in Pakistan at the Indus Music Awards and were honoured with four awards at the MTV Asia Awards. And did we mention that guitar-god-in-training Goher Mumtaz has been signed by US-based Gibson Guitar as a brand ambassador for their company?
It's really no wonder that fans and critics alike are moved by this talented trio's hypnotic blend of Urdu vocals and pop melodies full of catchy hooks and heartfelt, soul-stirring lyrics. Since hooking up in 2002, Jal has plunged into the Pakistani music scene with their hit debut album, Aadat. Jal's first single from that album, also titled "Aadat", was named the "best song of the year" in 2003 by The Musik. "Aadat" was the most downloaded Pakistani song for what seemed like forever, and it's still one of the most frequently requested songs on TV and radio in India.
Not to be outdone, Jal's second single, "Woh Lamhey", also broke through to the charts and stayed there for months.
Releasing one hit single after another to become popular mainstays on all the major music channels, these boys stay busy! Fortunately, these true-blue petaDishoom pals always make time to talk to us! Lead singer Farhan Saeed recently sang the praises of animals in an exclusive petaDishoom interview. When asked why he thinks it is important to speak up for animals in distress, the kind-hearted rocker said, "Animals can't speak up for themselves. Human beings ... can and should help animals. If you have pets in your house, treat them like family. If you have taken up the responsibility of keeping them, live up to that expectation".
We could not have said it better ourselves! Want to help animals too? Join our Street Team to win awesome prizes, earn accolades and help animals – all at the same time. Seriously, who could ask for more?
