Whether he’s on the telly hosting Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, the wildly popular music programme full of high notes and high hopes, or on the radio singing one of the sizzling songs from his album Tishnagi, we can’t get enough of Shaan! Considered one of the most talented Indian singers of our generation, Shaan first burst onto the music scene in the mid-’90s with remix masterpieces Q-Funk and Roop Inka Mastana. Over the last decade, he’s treated us to a host of hot hits including “Musu Musu Hasi”, “Tanha Dil” and “Bhool Ja”, to name just a few. Along the way he’s also lent his velvety voice to a bunch of Bollywood films, including Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, Lakshya, Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Tum, Dus, Salaam Namaste and Fanaa. Honoured with many awards over the years, Shaan recently won “Best Playback Singer (Male)” at both the Star Screen Awards and the Filmfare Awards for “Chand Sifarish”, a song featured in Fanaa.
Recently, petaDishoom was also honoured with something really special: an exclusive interview with Shaan! Charming and down-to-earth, this multi-talented star is an animal lover and petaDishoom supporter who believes that animals belong in their natural surroundings, not imprisoned in zoos. “If there is any sensitivity in your heart, you will protect animals, trees and human beings”, said Shaan, who thinks animals and people are very similar and doesn’t believe that humans should abuse or exploit animals just because they can.
When asked what he would like to say to young people about protecting animals, the big-hearted singer replied, “Be more sensitive towards animals. Don’t keep a companion animal if you don’t have the infrastructure to take care of him”. Shaan, whose busy schedule and hectic lifestyle keeps him from having a companion animal of his own, pours all his “puppy love” into his famous sister Sagarika’s dog Sniff, whom he says he always has “good fun playing with”.
