Hitshu Bachani: Rising Cricket Star

Hitshu BachaniYoung 20-something Hitshu Nitin Bachani dropped by to see us at petaDishoom, and boy, he sure is someone to watch out for!

Hitshu went from the Sabhka grounds and Insportz indoor cricket in Dubai to the Baroda Ranji Trophy squad and more. Hitshu made his Ranji Trophy debut when he was picked to play for defending champions Baroda against Saurashtra in the West Zone Ranji Trophy match at Rajkot some years ago.

Mid Day reports that Hitshu is the Cricket Club of India’s left-arm spinner “who’s been taking wickets by the five-fors in club cricket”. His fine bowling skills helped Mumbai Cricket Association beat Punjab Cricket Club by 28 runs during their league encounter in the 12th All-India J.P. Atray Cricket Tournament at PCA Cricket Stadium in Mohali.

Why are you a vegetarian?
I am a vegetarian because I believe that my stomach is not a graveyard for dead animals.

Does being a vegetarian help you feel physically fit?
Yes, I feel a lot healthier not eating meat. It keeps me in good shape, which is extremely essential for a sportsman.

What is your favourite vegetarian food?
Home-cooked food. I don’t get home-cooked food, because my mother lives in Dubai, but if given a choice, I would definitely recommend home-cooked food to everyone because it is tasty and keeps you healthy.

We have heard that you are really fond of animals and have two dogs. Tell us about them.
Yes, I love animals. And my dogs are vegetarians just like me!

What would you do if you saw an animal in distress?
I would make an effort to help an animal in distress. In fact, recently I was at Mud Island, and I saw this horse whose front and hind legs were tied. It was a pathetic sight. I quietly went and cut the rope and ran away from there.

Why do you support PETA?
PETA fights for the rights of animals and promotes vegetarianism. I am a vegetarian, and I love animals. So I support PETA.

Tell us something about your cricketing life.
I left home when I was only 15 years old and have been playing cricket since then. I got selected for the under-19 Indian team when I was 17. The following year, I broke my ankle. Even though I missed the under-19 opportunity, I succeeded in getting selected for the cricket team.

What keeps you going?
I guess hope! Lots of people hope that I make it in cricket. You sometimes think whether you have made the right choice about your career when things are not going your way. But you stick around because of family support.

What are your goals?
Just to make it in cricket. Not just be there, but stay there.
