Ten Tips for Freshers

We know that first year can be scary, but there is no reason for it to be scary for animals! Here are petaDishoom’s tips for a fright-free first year to get you started right:

Say ‘No’ to Mystery Meat: Have you seen canteen meat? Yuck! Millions of people get food poisoning from animal products every year. How many of them originated at your college?
Eat Healthy Foods: Doctor and model Aditi Govitrikar says, “Being a doctor, as well as a model, I know that eating veg is the first and most important ingredient in keeping fit. If you eat chicken or other meat, you’re consuming toxins, fat and cholesterol. Veg food is powered with all the vitamins and protein you need to be at your best.” She is beautiful and she is a doctor. Who better to give advice on looking good and feeling great?
Buy Cruelty-Free Products: They will make you look and feel better. They are also better for animals and often for the environment. See our “Looking Good Cruelty-Free” section for tips.
Take Regular Trips to the Gym: No, you do not have to go to work out but instead to show off your new cruelty-free sneakers. See “Wicked Style” for tips.
Leave Pus out of Your Coffee: Got pus? Milk does. It often contains pesticides and antibiotics too. Milk in India has also been found adulterated with gross things like earthworms and urea. See our “Foodie”section for tips on being happily dairy-free.
Do Not Just Sit There! Stand up for animals. If you see anyone abusing animals on campus, speak up. If you do not, who will?
Care for Stray Animals Around Campus: Work with a local animal birth control clinic or veterinarian to help educate people about spaying and neutering services to keep the number of stray dogs and cats down. Make sure that the clinic or office is professional and clean and that the animals are returned back to where they were found in healthy condition after they are sterilised. The less strays there are, the less trouble meanies cause them and the less accidents or injuries they suffer – and the more food and space each of them have. Also, feeding animals may seem like the right thing to do, but it is harmful to make them dependent on you for food. What will they do when you graduate if they do not learn to get food on their own? That said, do share your water with them on hot days, and of course, do not forget to give them love. They will be happy, and you will feel good. Life will be beautiful.
Teach a Vegan Cooking Class: Even people who are not vegan are interested in vegan foods, so a well-advertised class is bound to be successful.
Take a Hike! Get away from the hustle and bustle of busy college life by taking a walk in a park with your friends. That way, you can learn about frogs and other animals from nature – not by cutting them up in class.
Smile: Doctors say that you make yourself happier when you smile. And if you are happy, you will feel better. And if you smile when you are talking about animal rights, people will be more receptive to your message – an added bonus!
